Experience the Spiritual Month of Ramadan in Dubai
The Holy Month is less than a month away!
The exact day that Ramadan will start is always up in the air, as it depends on exact moon sightings. That said, we now have a pretty good idea of when it will be: Saturday, May 27 is slated to be the first day of the Holy Month. (Remember that this is still just a prediction)
Every year various religious, social, cultural and charitable events are organized to honor the spirituality of the Holy Month of Ramadan
, here are some of the highlights to mark on your calendar during the Holy Month:
Dubai International Holy Quran Award (Dihqa)
The 21st edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) is to see, for the first time ever, 96 contestants in the Holy Month of Ramadan in Dubai
The annual Dubai International Holy Quran Award presents two awards – one for memorization and a second to an Islamic personality. The memorization award is awarded during a competition for people who memorize and recite the Quran and the Islamic personality award is presented to a Muslim personality or Islamic organization.

Dubai Ramadan Forum 2017
To learn about the Islamic faith, local tradition and culture, head to Dubai World Trade Centre for the 16th edition of the Dubai Ramadan Forum. The line-up of events includes daily lectures presented by well-known preachers like Sheikh Khalid Yasin, Shaykh Hussain Salafi, Sheikh Nadhir Oquindo, on relevant social and religious issues. The lectures are available in Arabic, English, Urdu, Malayalam, Tagalog and Bengali, and everyone is invited to participate.

Placing the spotlight firmly on reflection during the Holy Month, a series of activities will be conducted aimed at helping Muslims better practice Islam over Ramadan. The sermons will be broadcast live and several well-known reciters from around the globe will lead the Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers during the Holy month.
Dubai Islamic Affairs – Rashidiya Mosque
Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament are held in Ramadan in Dubai
This annual sports event has become one of the most popular spectator events of Ramadan in Dubai. The tournament attracts male and female athletes from different countries, whether able-bodied or disabled, to compete in exciting matches like paddle tennis, archery, volleyball, running, wheelchair basketball and goalball. Participants are required to pre-register.

Huboob Al Khair
Prominent preachers and scholars of Islamic faith will deliver awareness and recite the Holy Quran as part of the third edition of the ‘Huboob Al Khair’ program. The program is held under the patronage of Shaikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Zayed Humanitarian Day
Zayed Humanitarian Day held every year on the 19th day of Ramadan in memory of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a great humanitarian and the founder of the UAE, the day is marked by charitable activities.
The day aims to remind residents of the importance of humanitarian initiatives and extending help to the world’s less fortunate to alleviate the suffering of those affected by conflict and natural disasters.
This is a group exhibition shaped by artists and designers and their personal reflections of Ramadan. This year’s theme focuses on how the observance of Ramadan influences daily life and upholds the Islamic belief system across the world.
The purpose of the show is to invite artists to reveal what Ramadan means to them, and the impact of commercialisation on the holy month. The exhibition opens at 7 pm on 24 May, but if you can’t make it the opening night you can catch it anytime during Ramadan month.
